The Top Three Questions for BDI, Answered

  • What is the first priority of MRO customers?

The Number One priority of most customers today is finding ways to lower their total cost of ownership. One way this can be done is through Partner Managed Inventory (PMI), which streamlines the supply chain while still allowing the customer to own and control their inventory data.

  • How does an industrial supplier integrate its own system with a customer’s data to streamline transactions?

This can be done in a number of simple, yet effective ways.  EDI, or Electronic Data Interchange, allows for the automatic exchange of documents in a fast and accurate way. Customers have the freedom to pick and choose which documents they want to exchange. Another way is through a partner’s ecommerce website. Customers can search, price, compare and choose the items they need in real time on their own time. Punch Out is another great data integration tool that’s used to eliminate double order entry.

  • How are rising costs to do business affecting personnel, staffing and purchasing decisions in your industry?

Companies are charged with doing more with less today. One of the ways we address this is by providing our customers with practical and proven solutions that can positively impact their bottom line.  For example, if a product or an idea is applied successfully at one customer location, we have an internal program called Success Made Easier to ensure the solution is shared among our teams and throughout the industry.

Get to Know BDI

At BDI, there’s much to be proud of.  There’s the fact that we’re an industry-leading, ISO OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA9001:2008 certified company, both at our Cleveland, Ohio corporate headquarters, and at many of our worldwide branches.  There’s the fact that we serve our customers—loyal clients in industries ranging from agriculture to plastics to mining to medicine, and much in between—with products whose quality is matched by the service that comes with them.  There’s also the fact that we’ve expanded to over 170 locations around the globe, providing more than three million products that keep our national and international customers’ operations running smoothly.

We’re also proud of the fact that we’ve been in business since 1935, when we were a small company providing the steel industry with parts and services for maintenance, repair, and operations.  Through ingenuity, a commitment to excellence, and employees who are the best in the business (now totaling 1,300 worldwide), we’ve grown exponentially, but haven’t forgotten our humble roots.

By learning from this past and looking to the future, we’re now distributing our bearings, mechanical power transmission, electrical power transmission, linear motion, fluid power, material handling and safety products throughout the US, Canada, Mexico, Europe and Asia, opening on average five to six new locations every year.  Between 2009 and 2011, our revenue grew 47%, and we constantly take risks that pay off.

In keeping our multitude of locations, employees, and services united, we are now replacing our existing enterprise resource platform with SAP, uniting all BDI locations into one system that will share knowledge, experience, and expertise.  Our ONE BDI platform will bring 10 countries and systems together and will help us to not only continue to grow, but to bring our customers—all of them, everywhere—the quality they expect and deserve.

We look forward to this growth, and to providing new customers with the products and solutions of which we are so proud.  Please visit our website for more information, and contact us with any questions.
